School of Business Hall of Fame 2004

NEW PALTZ — The School of Business Selection Committee at the State University of New York at New Paltz is pleased to announce the 2004 School of Business Hall of Fame inductees. This is the School of Business’ highest honor.

The three inductees — Clifford M. Miller, Business Person of the Year; Joan Lawrence-Bauer, Alumna of the Year (’93); and Shaun Hoff, Student of the Year — will be recognized at the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m. on May 6 at the Hillside Manor in Kingston.

“The Hall of Fame provides us with the opportunity to recognize the great achievements of our volunteer business leaders, alumni and students,” said Hadi Salavitabar, the dean of the School of Business. “We are very fortunate to have such dedicated people as members of our School of Business family working to improve our educational programs.”

Clifford M. Miller is the president and CEO of Ulster Savings Bank. He holds leadership positions in many organizations, which benefit not only the regional business community, but also seek to improve the lives of the people who live and work in the Hudson Valley. Miller is a graduate of Kingston High School and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Rutgers University. In 1972, he received a teaching degree from SUNY New Paltz. In 1980, he graduated from the National School of Banking at Fairfield University in Connecticut.

Joan Lawrence-Bauer is the President of the Business Development Group, a small-business consulting firm located in Big Indian, N.Y., and handles business development and communication activities for the Kingston Housing Authority. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Public Communication from SUNY New Paltz and has completed course work for a master of the arts degree at the University at Albany. Lawrence-Bauer has lectured extensively in communication and media studies at SUNY New Paltz and Ulster County Community College. She also serves as vice chair of the Board of Directors for the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce and as a board member for the Ulster County Development Corporation.

Shaun Hoff is a founding member of the Management Association (MA), the SUNY New Paltz chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Hoff has worked with the MA since its inception in the spring of 2001, taking on roles of increasing responsibility along the way. In 2001, Hoff served as secretary of the MA and was recognized with an Outstanding Student Service Award. He has been the MA president since May 2002 and, in that role, has guided the MA to being honored as a Superior Merit Award Student Chapter by the Society for Human Resource Management, which is an honor that only 25 percent of all SHRM student chapters receive. Hoff graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Management from SUNY New Paltz in 2002. He is currently a student in the MBA program, with a concentration in management.

The School of Business is committed to excellent teaching, integrated curriculum, teamwork, and practical application of business concepts, all of which are demonstrated through the School’s continuous improvement efforts. It offers quality instruction leading to Bachelor of Science degrees in accounting, finance, general business, international business, management, and marketing. The M.B.A. program offers seven separate concentrations: accounting (CPA Track); accounting (Non-CPA Track); finance; information and knowledge management (I.K.M); international business; management; and marketing.
