New Paltz Women’s Basketball Team Drops Conference Match-up to Geneseo

NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team fell 72-54 to State University of New York Athletic Conference rival Geneseo this afternoon at Elting Gym.

The Blue Knights (9-6, 3-3) outscored New Paltz 15-2 in the final five minutes of the first half to overcome a 14-point deficit and took a 33-26 lead into the break. Senior guard Arin Belden (Warsaw, NY) helped Geneseo raise its lead to double digits with a basket two minutes into the second half that made it 37-26. The Blue Knights lead did not dip below double figures the rest of the way. Belden, who was one of four Geneseo players to score in double figures, finished with 12 points. Junior guard Felisha Brown (Tonawanda, NY) scored a game-high 18 points for Geneseo who has now won eight of its last 11 games.

New Paltz built a 22-8 lead with 9:40 left in the first half on the strength of a strong perimeter game. The Hawks hit four of their first six attempts from three-point range including two by freshman forward Sandra Glazewski (Dobbs Ferry, NY) who had 14 first half points.

Glazewski led all New Paltz scorers with 17 points. Senior forward Lindsay Dakin (Andover, CT) added seven points off the bench. New Paltz finished 7-of-20 (.350) from three-point range was 18-of-53 (.340) from the field.

The Hawks have now dropped back-to-back conference games and stand at 2-5 in the SUNYAC and 5-9 overall.
