Foluke-Henderson Scores 22 Points in loss to Oswego State

NEW PALTZ, NY — Freshman forward Amseshem Foluke-Henderson’s (Jamaica, NY) 22 points weren’t enough to overcome a late second half run by Oswego and the Lakers went onto defeat SUNY New Paltz 75-64 this evening in Elting Gym.

Oswego (10-5, 4-3) started a 12-4 run midway through the second half to take a 61-48 lead with 6:10 remaining. Freshman guard Nicholas Perioli (Liverpool, NY) keyed Oswego’s charge with a pair of three-point field goals and went on to lead all scorers with 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor and 5-of-9 from three-point range. Junior forward Dave Ponza (Solvay, NY) added 14 points for the Lakers who helped eighth-year Head Coach Kevin Broderick earn his 100th career win.

In a tight first half, the Hawks took a 15-10 lead on a pair of free throws by freshman guard Matt Irwin (Brooklyn, NY) with 12 minutes remaining. Oswego State pulled even on a free throw by Perioli with 2:50 to play and then grabbed its first lead since the 16:30 mark on a jumper by sophomore guard Ahmad Mims (Syracuse, NY). After Foluke-Henderson put the Hawks ahead 27-25 with an inside basket, Perioli connected on a three-point field goal with five seconds remaining to give the Lakers a 28-27 lead at the break.

Senior guard Matt Daudier (S. Floral Park, NY) finished with 17 points for the Hawks who are now 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the SUNYAC.
