BRONX, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team captured its season opener with a 3-0 sweep at Lehman College this afternoon.
After earning a comfortable 30-17 win in game one, the Hawks picked up a hard-fought 31-29 victory in game two and were extended even further in game three before clinching the match with a 35-33 win.
Junior Chris Ganje (Halfmoon, NY) led the way with 21 kills and five digs. Junior Mike LaRocco (Hauppauge, NY) and senior Rob Dietrich (San Jose, CA) each added eight kills for the Hawks. Junior Shawn Livingston (Kings Park, NY) played a strong game on the defensive end for New Paltz and finished with 12 digs.
New Paltz will play its second straight road match on Tuesday night against York College at 7:00 p.m.
