SUNY New Paltz Women’s Tennis Team Drops First Match of the Season, 8-1, to Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Hawks women s tennis team lost their first match of the season as they were defeated, 8-1, by Vassar College this afternoon. The Hawks drop to 7-1 while the Brewers improve to 4-0.

Vassar won all three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches. The Brewers had three players win their singles and doubles match. Sophomore Katy Robinette (Pine Bluff, AR) and freshman Kelly Graham (Kennebunk, ME) defeated juniors Kerry Farrell (Rockville Centre, NY) and Amanda Rosario (Bronx, NY), 8-2, at number one doubles. Robinette took the number two singles match 6-1, 6-3 over senior Becky Sparacin (Goshen, NY) while Graham handed junior Amie Larson (Port Jervis, NY) her first loss at number four singles by a score of 6-1, 6-4.

Freshman Debbie Sharnak (East Brunswick, NJ) and senior Diya Uberoi (Princeton, NJ) teamed up to defeat Amie and her sister Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY), 8-2 at number two doubles. Sharnak also won 6-0, 6-0 at number three singles over Rosario.

Sophomore Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY) defeated junior Robin Chu (Woodside, NY), 7-6, 3-6, 10-7 (third set tiebreak) at number six singles to earn the Hawks lone point.
