NEWBURGH, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Hawks women s tennis team upped their record to a perfect 7-0 this season with a 7-2 victory over Mount Saint Mary.
The Hawks were spearheaded by senior Becky Sparacin (Goshen, NY) and junior Kerry Farrell (Rockville Centre, NY) who won both their singles and doubles matches. The duo teamed up to win the first doubles flight, 8-4, over seniors Caroline Ferrero (Hauppauge, NY) and Audra Woodruff (Sayville, NY). Sparacin also won number one singles, 6-4, 6-3 over Ferrero and Farrell took the number two singles match, 6-0, 6-4 over senior Tricia Piliere (Slate Hill, NY). Sisters Amie and Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) were also double winners for New Paltz. They teamed up to capture the number two doubles flight, 8-1, over Piliere and junior Victoria Rivera (Brooklyn, NY). Junior Amie won number four singles, 6-1, 6-0 over Rivera while freshman Jen defeated Briseyda Acevedo (Newburgh, NY), 6-4, 6-4 at number five singles.
The Hawks earned their seventh point at number six singles where sophomore Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY) beat junior Lauren LeMon (Warwick, NY), 6-4, 6-1. Mount Saint Mary (4- 2) won the number three singles and doubles matches.
