SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team Defeats Farmingdale, 5-1

FARMINGDALE, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team won for the fourth time in their last five games with a 5-1 victory over Farmingdale State this afternoon.

New Paltz (5-7-2) got goals from senior forward Mario Lavacca (Port Washington, NY) and freshman forward Daniel Libardi (Canaan, NY) en route to a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Hawks continued to put the pressure on in the second half and took a 3-0 lead when junior defender Chris Daly (Washingtonville, NY) found the back of the net at the 54:23 mark. Just over 10 minutes later, Lavacca notched his second goal of the game and junior midfielder Bryan Smith ended the scoring with a goal at the 70:42 mark.

Farmingdale’s (5-11) goal was a result of an own goal by the Hawks.

Junior goalkeeper Brendan Morris (Hopewell Junction, NY) made three saves in the win. Farmingdale goalkeepers Brett Southard (Carmel, NY) and Billie Binnie (Centereach, NY) combined to make 11 saves in the loss.

New Paltz plays at local rival Vassar on Wednesday, October 29th at 3:00 pm in their final game of the regular season.
