SUNY New Paltz Men’s Soccer Team Clinches Playoff Berth With 10-1 Victory over SUNYIT

UTICA, NY — Senior forward Mario Lavacca (Port Washington, NY), junior defender Chris Daly (Washingtonville, NY), and freshman midfielder Joe Fabian (Selden, NY) each scored two goals as SUNY New Paltz defeated State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival SUNYIT, 10-1, this afternoon. The Hawks clinched the sixth seed in the SUNYAC Men’s Soccer Tournament with the victory. They will travel to Cortland to take on the third-seeded Red Dragons on Tuesday, November 4.

Lavacca scored the first two goals of the game and notched an assist on Daly’s second goal as the Hawks took a commanding 7-0 halftime lead.

The New Paltz freshmen also chipped in as midfielders Chris Smith (Washingtonville, NY), Garrett Munro (Sidney, NY), Brian Siergiej (Oceanside, NY) and forward Chris Pendergast (Miller Place, NY) all found the back of the net.

Goalkeepers Brendan Morris (Hopewell Junction, NY) and Alan Kuusisto (Pelham, MA) each played a half in the Hawks victory.

New Paltz improved to 5-7-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the SUNYAC while SUNYIT dropped to 0-16 overall and 0-9 in the SUNYAC.
