Early Goal Leads Cortland Past New Paltz Women’s Soccer Team

CORTLAND, NY — Junior Angela Bruno’s (Syracuse, NY) fourth goal of the season in the 10th minute proved to be the game-winner as the Cortland women’s soccer team shutout SUNY New Paltz, 1-0 this afternoon.

Freshman Andrea Marino (Utica, NY) set up the goal with a cross from the right side into the box. Bruno one-timed a low shot from 10-yards out just inside the right post and into the net. Cortland controlled the game outshooting New Paltz 34-8. The Red Dragons (6-6, 4-2) also held an 8-3 advantage on corner kicks, but couldn’t put another ball past junior goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) who finished the game with 14 saves.

Freshman Allison Fliegel (New Hyde Park, NY) had six of the Hawks’ eight shots. New Paltz dropped to 1-10-1 overall and 0-7 in the SUNYAC.
