Cross Country Teams Run Final Race Before SUNYAC Championship

CLINTON, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men s and women s cross country teams had their final race of the fall before the SUNYAC Championship on October 25. The two teams were at the Hamilton College Invitational in Clinton, New York this morning. The men s team finished seventh among 15 teams and the women were ninth among a field of 15.

Senior John Zarella (Mahopac, NY) was the top finisher for New Paltz with a 12th place finish and a time of 27:32. Freshman Matt McLean (Oswego, NY) ran a time of 29:11 to finish in 42nd place. Senior Dan Holton (Rhinebeck, NY) completed the course in 29:13 to finish 44th. Junior Sam Austin (Northport, NY) was 72nd with a time of 30:03. Junior Jason Letts (Plattsburgh, NY) was also among the Hawks top five finishers. He was 78th with a time of 30:23.

Queen s University won the meet with 45 points. New Paltz registered a total of 223. Sam Pitts of Plattsburgh finished first in the race with a time of 26:25.

Sophomore Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY) led the women s squad with a time of 19:37 and a 14th place finish. Sophomore Heather DeBuono (Fishkill, NY) was second for New Paltz and 43rd overall with a time of 20:30. Sophomore Kate Choromanski (Shelton, CT) finished 47th with a time of 20:33. Junior Kelly Moore (Rochester, NY) completed the course in 21:17 to finish in 66th place. Freshman Alida Van Almelo (Groton, NY) crossed the finish line in 21:26 to finish in 69th place.

New Paltz had a total of 210 points. Queen University, who had five the top six finishers, won the meet with 17 points. Beth Wightman of Queens won the race with a time of 16:56.
