Remembrance and Reflection: Sept. 11, 2001

NEW PALTZ — The State University of New York at New Paltz will hold an hour-long remembrance ceremony beginning at noon, Sept. 11, on the Student Union Building (SUB) concourse to reflect upon the lives lost in the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001.

The agenda for the ceremony includes opening remarks by both Steven G. Poskanzer, president of New Paltz, and John Agnelli, assistant director of College Activities. In addition, first-year student, Sarah Pressman, will play “Wish you Were Somehow Here Again,” from the Phantom of the Opera, on the piano.

Harrison Harvey, president of the Student Association, Paul Walley, campus pastor, and a representative of the Center for Peace and Social Justice will all make comments, as well.

The SUNY New Paltz community will also offer a night of reflection with a Candlelight Vigil beginning at 9:30 p.m. on the SUB concourse. There will be a march around the campus that will end around the pond — with the candlelight reflecting off the water.

The events are sponsored by the Center for Peace and Social Justice and are open to the public. For more information, contact the Office of Public Affairs at (845) 257-3245.
