NEW PALTZ — The documentary, “Human Weapon,” will be shown at the State University of New York at New Paltz campus at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24, in the Coykendall Science Building Auditorium. This film about suicide bombing will be presented in the company of the two filmmakers, who will be available for discussion following the film.
The presentation of the film is open to the public.
The film provides an in-depth examination of the complexity of suicide bombings and a new insight into the trend of suicide bombing and its role in warfare. Stephen Holden of The New York Times called “Human Weapon” a “gripping and important documentary,” and The Christian Science Monitor called it “chilling and instructive.”
Filmed in Iran, Lebanon, Sri Lanka, Israel, Palestine, Europe and the United States, “Human Weapon” weaves together never-before seen, dramatic footage through interviews with key militants whose organizations use suicide bombing as part of their strategy. Other interviews include failed suicide bombers, victims and families of victims, investigators, and analysts from around the world.
After the viewing of the film, there will be an open discussion with the filmmakers. Nancy Peckenham, co-writer and field producer, is a former executive producer at CNN, where she worked with international broadcasters and developed a focus on law enforcement and terrorism. “Human Weapon” is her fourth documentary with Ilan Ziv, the producer, director and executive producer. Ziv, born in Israel, graduated from New York University with a major in film and has received such honors as the Guggenheim Fellowship.
