Hawks Soar at King’s Point Invitational

KING’S POINT, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men and women’s outdoor track and field teams competed at the United States Merchant Marine Academy Invitational Saturday in King’s Point, NY.

The Hawks finished the non-scoring meet with 12 first-place finishes and four ECAC qualifying marks.

Senior Heidi Dippel (Levittown, NY) had an ECAC qualifying mark of 1.57 meters in the high jump taking second place at the meet, and Jennifer Hutchinson (Queensbury, NY) took first place with an ECAC qualifying mark of 3.05 meters in the pole vault.

Josh Moore (Woodburne, NY) and Adam Thyberg’s (Blue Point, NY) first-place finishes at the meet also landed them spots in the upcoming ECAC Championships. Moore had a throw of 14.76 meters in the shot put and Thyberg cleared 4.19 meters in the pole vault.

Also for the men, Andrew Hunsinger (Queensbury, NY) and Tony Giresi (Shirley, NY) had first-place finishes on the day. Hinsinger crossed the finish line first in the 100 meters with a time of 11.40 seconds and Giresi took top honors in the javelin with a throw of 42.60 meters.

Musu Jackson-Buckner (Buffalo, NY) took first place in the 100 meters (13.11) and Heather DeBuono (Fishkill, NY) was first in the 800 meters (2:27.35).

Natasha Dudar’s (New Paltz, NY), Andrea Drayss (Island Park, NY), and Kara Conner also took the top spots in their events. Dudar was first in the long jump (4.92m), Drayss took top honors in the shot put (11.82m), and Conner won the triple jump (9.65m).

In addition, both the women’s 4×100 and 4×400 teams were victorious on the afternoon. The 4×100 team finished in 52.93 seconds and the 4×400 team crossed the finish line in 4:14.24.

New Paltz track and field will be in action again this Friday at the Albany Invitational beginning at 10:00 a.m.
