Vassar Defeats New Paltz 7-0 in Men’s Tennis

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – — Playing their first match in 11 days, the New Paltz men’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Vassar this afternoon.

The Hawks, who had won three matches in a row, fell to 3-3 on the season.

Juniors Brad Breakstone (Mount Kisco, NY) and Bobby Calise (East Islip, NY) each suffered their first loss of the season. Breakstone, at number two singles, had his five match winning streak stopped with a 6-1, 6-2 loss to sophomore John Liszewski (South Windsor, CT). Calise, who was also 5-0, lost 5-7, 6-0, 4-6 to sophomore Andrew Ezekowitz (Woodbridge, CT) at number four singles.

The Brewers improved to 4-8 with the victory.

New Paltz will face Oswego on Friday at 3:00 p.m.

Doubles: 1) Maslikowski/Brookner (V) defeated Tiran/Breakstone (NP) 8-1. 2) Liszewski/Rebek (V) defeated Finger/Calise (NP) 8-1. 3) Bruhn/Ezekowitz (V) defeated Greenspan/Jason Letts (NP) 9-8 (7-5).
