Shukie and Najemy Lift Vassar Past New Paltz

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – — Senior infielder Chris Shukie (Easton, CT) scored four runs and junior designated hitter Adam Najemy (Rutland, MA) drove in four to lead Vassar to a 9-4 win over New Paltz this afternoon at Prentiss Field.

Najemy doubled home two runs in a five-run third that put Vassar ahead 6-2 at the time.

Junior outfielder Kristaps Aldins (Westwood, MA) went 3-for- 4 with an RBI and junior outfielder Justin Hergianto (Sebring, FL) added two hits, a run and two RBI.

Four players combined for eight of the Hawks 11 hits. Senior outfielder Kevin Smith (Niskayuna, NY) was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Freshman outfielder Vinny McAdams (Little Falls, NY), junior shortstop Silvester Castro (New York, NY), and senior outfielder Tom Bigler (Brewster, NY) each had two hits as well.

Freshman Joseph Gugliotta (Bayport, NY) took the loss for New Paltz. In four and a third innings, he allowed 10 hits and four earned runs to drop to 0-3.

Sophomore Dave DeSario (Brightwaters, NY) picked up the win for Vassar and improved to 2-1.

The Hawks, who are now 5-13, dropped their second game to Vassar in the last week and are now 1-2 against the Brewers (11-4) this year.
