Montclair No Match For Surging Hawks

NEW PALTZ — The SUNY New Paltz men’s tennis team won their fourth in a row Friday, disposing of Montclair 6-1.

The Hawks are now 8-4 on the season with Bard, Ramapo, and Steven’s Tech all remaining on the schedule.

New Paltz started strong taking the doubles point with a 3-0 sweep of the Red Hawks. Brad Breakstone (Mount Kisco, NY) and Brian Palmenteri (Howard Beach, NY) won 8-2 to improve to 3-1 in doubles this year.

Bobby Calise (East Islip, NY) and Nick Finger (Glenmont, NY) improved to 7-5 with an 8-1 win, and Josh Greenspan (North Babylon, NY) and Jason Letts (Colebrook, NH) went to 6-2 with an 8-4 win.

In singles play, Calise continued to rip through the opposition with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Patrick Lee. Calise now sits at 11-1 on the year. Finger, Greenspan, and Letts were also straight-set winners and Palmenteri was taken to a third before prevailing 6-2, 2-6, 6-2.

Doubles: 1) Breakstone/Palmenteri (NP) defeated Miller/P. Lee (M) 8-2. 2) Calise/Finger (NP) defeated R. Lee/Ahmed (M) 8-1. 3) Greenspan/Letts (NP) defeated Whirle/Smaltz 8-4.
