Women’s Soccer Team Falls 2-1 in NYSWCAA Tourney

PURCHASE, NY – — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team, seeded-sixth in the New York State Women’s Collegiate Athletic Association (NYSWCAA) Tournament, suffered a 2-1 loss to third-seeded Manhattanville in opening round action this afternoon.

After a scoreless first half, the Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute when Lauren Pastore headed a rebound into the goal.

SUNY New Paltz, who had lost a 1-0 decision at home to Manhattanville on September 8, maintained the lead until the 70th minute when Melissa Hawkins provided the Valiants (11-9) with the equalizer.

Four minutes later, the Hawks were whistled for a foul in the box and Stephanie Rein converted the penalty kick giving Manhattanville a 2-1 lead.

SUNY New Paltz ended its season with an 8-13 record.
