Demeri Runs Fastest 5K in New Paltz History

CLINTON, NY — Rebecca Demeri (Wantagh, NY) ran the fastest 5k time in the history of the program Saturday at the Hamilton Invitational Saturday. Demeri came in with a time of 19:41 and finished 28th overall.

Janet Walsh (Baldwinsville, NY) also ran a strong race as she recorded the fourth fastest time in the program’s history with a time of 20:26 and was 62nd overall.

The women placed 12th as a team at the event with a total of 292 points. Queen’s University won the race with 39 points.

On the men’s side, the Hawks were led by Dan Holton (Rhinebeck, NY) who completed the five-mile course in 27:06 to finish 10th. Phil Goodwin (Rochester, NY) was 12th with a time of 27:11. John Zarella (Mahopac, NY), Justin Lee (East Fishkill, NY) and Gary Beers (Pearl River, NY) all finished among the top 50. Zarella was 26th (27:50), Lee was 28th (28:06), and Beers was 42nd (28:32).

The men finished 3rd out of 13 teams with 118 points and placed better than several SUNYAC squads at the event. Queen’s University won the race with 81 total points.
