Oswego Defeats New Paltz 3-1

NEW PALTZ – — The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to conference rival Oswego this afternoon in a steady rainfall at New Paltz.

Weather conditions played a hand in most of the game’s scoring. Oswego got on the board first when freshman forward Maureen Kaspereck (Fulton, NY) played a ball in front of the net that slipped off the hands of Hawks sophomore goalie Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY).

The Hawks got the equalizer in the 27th minute when freshman forward Winnie Lento (Patchogue, NY) scored on a ball that was mishandled by Oswego junior goalie Alecia Scorsone (Geneseo, NY).

Kaspereck gave the Great Lakers (7-7, 3-3) the lead for good when she recorded her team-leading 13th goal of the year on a breakaway in the 70th minute.

Oswego put the game away six mintues later when junior forward Gina Vono (Fulton, NY) followed up a shot that Fenton had stopped.

The Hawks dropped to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in the SUNYAC.
