RPI Sinks New Paltz 5-2

TROY, NY — Rensselaer handed the visiting Hawks a 5-2 loss Wednesday to improve their record to 2-0 for the year.

New Paltz jumped ahead in the first half when Lauren Martone (Hastings, NY) kicked a line drive over the head of RPI keeper Andrea Hamill (Mahopac, NY) for a 1-0 lead. The Red Hawks answered less than two minutes later when senior Sue Gonyea (Scotia, NY) scored her third of the year.

In the second half, Gonyea scored her second of the game in the 60th minute and Kristy Nachman (Johnson City, NY) made it 3-1 thirty seconds later. Three minutes after that, it was 4-1 on Lisa McMillan’s (Rochester, NY) goal.

Courtney Muller (Lake Grove, NY) cut the lead to two with twelve minutes left in the game but Laura Feeney (Merrick, NY) ended the scoring at 5-2 with seven minutes remaining. Hamill made two saves for the Red Hawks and Hawk goalkeeper Maggie Fenton (East Meadow, NY) made ten.
