Potsdam Rallies to Beat New Paltz Men’s Soccer

NEW PALTZ — The Potsdam men’s soccer team scored three second-half goals to remain undefeated in a 4-3 win over New Paltz in the conference opener for both teams this afternoon.

The Bears chipped away at a 3-1 deficit to improve their overall record to 5-0. Trailing by two goals with 25 minutes remaining, junior midfielder Eric Kollar (Binghamton, NY) set up junior forward Liam Mahoney (Ellenburg Center, NY) to cut the Potsdam deficit to 3-2. The Bears got the equalizer five minutes later when Kollar, who had two goals and an assist, slipped one past New Paltz senior goalkeeper Kevin Smith (Niskayuna, NY) to tie the game at three.

With Potsdam pressuring New Paltz, the Bears took their only lead of the game in the 83rd minute when junior forward Tony Colasanto (Fairport, NY) delivered a pass to freshman Mike Hooker (Cicero, NY) who put home the game-winner.

SUNY New Paltz (2-5, 0-1) used precision passing to build a two-goal lead midway through the second half. Sophomore midfielder Bryan Smith (Washingtonville, NY) found sophomore defender Mike Dodge (Holbrook, NY) to give the Hawks a 3-1 advantage at the 65-minute mark.

Sophomore forward Matt Daum (New Paltz, NY) and Dodge each had a goal and an assist for the Hawks.
