Men’s Tennis Sets School Record For Wins

MAHWAH, NJ/HOBOKEN, NJ — The New Paltz men’s tennis team capped their season this weekend with wins over Ramapo and Steven’s Tech. In the process, the Hawks set a new college record for wins in a season with 11.

On Friday against Ramapo, New Paltz lost just two matches in a 7-2 win. In singles, Tiby Taran (Brooklyn Kings, NY), Brad Breakstone (Mount Kisco, NY), Brian Palmenteri (Howard Beach, NY), and Josh Greenspan (North Babylon, NY) all cruised to straight-set victories. In doubles, Taran and David Bridglall (Bronx, NY) won 8-2, and Breakstone and Greenspan won 8-5.

Saturday, in the season finale, the Hawks rolled 8-1 over Steven’s for their 11th win of the year. New Paltz swept in singles taking all six matches. Paulinski, Taran, Breakstone, Palmenteri, and Greenspan all won in straight sets and Bobby Calise (East Islip, NY) pulled through in the third set of his match 10-7 to claim the victory. In doubles, Paulinski and Taran won 8-4 and Breakstone and Calise won 8-5.

For the season, every member of the New Paltz team finished with a winning record. Brandon Goodman (New Paltz, NY), Gar Cheung (Wappingers Falls, NY), and senior David Bridglall all finished the season unbeaten. Goodman was 4-0, Cheung was 1-0, and Bridglall was 1-0. Freshman Josh Greenspan finished a great season at 14-3, while Bobby Calise finished at 12-4. Palmenteri ended the year 10-6, Breakstone was 10-7, Taran was 7-5, and senior Ed Paulinski was 8-7.

In addition to these achievements, several Hawks broke individual college records for wins on the year. Breakstone broke the #3 singles record for wins at New Paltz with 10, Calise set the #4 singles record for wins with 12, Palmenteri broke the #5 singles record with 10 victories, and Greenspan now holds the #6 singles record with 14 wins. In doubles, Breakstone and Calise set a new college record with 10 wins for #2 doubles, and Palmenteri (11) and Bridglall (9) both broke the school record for wins in #3 doubles.
