Union Slips Past New Paltz Tennis
NEW PALTZ — Men’s tennis fell to 7-6 on the season Tuesday as the Hawks lost in a close one to Union 5-4.
The visiting Dutchmen used a 3-0 sweep in doubles play to secure the victory. In singles play, the Hawks managed to take four out of six of the matches with three going the distance. Ed Paulinski (Floral Park, NY), Bobby Calise (East Islip, NY), and Brian Palmenteri (Howard Beach, NY) all recorded three-set victories while Brad Breakstone (Mount Kisco, NY) won in straight sets. Paulinski won his match over Andy Shohet 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, Calise recovered from a 0-6 first set loss to take the following two 6-2, 6-4, and Palmenteri took the final two sets of his match with Drew Goldstein 6-3, 7-5 after falling behind 3-6 in the first set. Breakstone dismantled his opponent, Adam Rosen 6- 0 in the first set and took the second set 6-4 for the win.
The Hawks look to rebound at Bard Wednesday at 5:00pm.
