Russell Sage Frustrates New Paltz Softball

TROY, NY — The Gators of Russell Sage only allowed two runs in two games to the New Paltz softball team Tuesday in Troy, NY. Sage took game one, 5-1 and game two, 11-1. The losses drop the Hawks’ record to 1-12 on the season.

In game one, the Hawks out hit the Gators 10-4 but could only get one run across the plate. Sage made the most of their opportunities while the Hawks stranded 10 runners on base. Wendy Del Orbe (Bronx, NY) pitched all six innings for the Hawks giving up just five runs on four hits while striking out six batters. Katie Monahan (Port Jefferson Station, NY) rapped out three hits to lead the New Paltz offense while Jessica Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY) and Del Orbe each had two apiece.

In game two, Gator pitcher Jen Polhemus tamed the New Paltz bats giving up just two hits in five innings of work. Sage had eleven hits in the game and held a 10-0 lead after just two innings. Jen Varrone (New Paltz, NY) took the loss giving up six runs on nine hits in 1 and 1/3 innings. Jen Born (Walroth, NY) and Michelle Lever (Holbrook, NY) had the only hits for New Paltz.

Women’s softball will be in action Wednesday against Mt. St. Mary.
