Choral Ensembles at SUNY New Paltz Present Spring Concert

NEW PALTZ — The combined choral ensembles of SUNY New Paltz, under the direction of Dr. Edward Lundergan, present a Spring Choral Concert on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 8:00 PM in McKenna Theatre. Tickets are available at the door at the following prices: $5 adults, $4 seniors and faculty/staff, and $3 students.

SUNY New Paltz is home to three distinct choral groups – the Chamber Singers, Concert Choir and College-Community Chorale. Each semester, the ensembles gather to give a concert that traverses a range of choral music – from modern to Renaissance, from English part-songs to Asian folk-song. This combination of chamber works and large-scale choral pieces from around the globe and throughout history provides an exciting evening of music for voice.

The spring concert includes performances by all three ensembles, and concludes with Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem, performed by the Concert Choir and an eleven-piece chamber orchestra. Soloists include Sara Joki, soprano, and Paul Frazer, baritone. Carole Cowan, solo violin and viola; Emily Faxon, Valentina Charlap-Evans, and Ping Jin, viola; Susan Seligman and Kirk Aengenheyster, cello; Craig Mourton, bass; William McCann and Andrew Karr, horn; Laura Majestic, harp; and Gary Palmieri, organ; accompany the Concert Choir in this haunting work.

The Chamber Singers have prepared a selection of traditional Jewish choral tunes, including Hugo Adler’s “Early will I seek thee.” Featuring soloists Carol Lundergan, soprano, and Paul Frazer, baritone, the College-Community Choral will perform selected anthems by the English Baroque master, Henry Purcell.
