Baseball Loses in Rematch With Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, NY — The New Paltz and Farmingdale men’s baseball teams battled to an eight inning 8-8 tie on March 28th setting up Wednesday’s rematch. The Rams outlasted the Hawks in the end and won 11-7. The loss drops New Paltz’s record to 7-16- 1.

With Farmingdale leading 1-0 in the top of the third, senior Jeff Lackaye (Woodstock, NY) sent a solo blast over the wall to tie the game. The Rams got two back in the bottom of the third before John Buonamano (Royersford, PA) ripped a solo homerun in the fourth to cut the lead to 3-2. The Rams exploded in the bottom of the fourth picking up five runs (three unearned) and taking an 8-2 lead. The Hawks got one back in the fifth when Randy Walters (Collierville, TN) singled home Paul Schropfer (Glen Oaks, NY), and got three in the sixth on an RBI single from Schropfer and a 2-RBI single from Ernesto Sosa (Santa Domingo, DR). Trailing 11-6 in the ninth, Walters doubled to open the inning. Buonamano then doubled him home and a comeback rally looked possible. Unfortunately, the Hawks could not manage another hit. Don Hallenbeck (Fallsburg, NY) pitched all eight innings in the loss. Hallenbeck gave up twelve hits while striking out five Ram batters.

The Hawks next play Thursday at Loren Campbell Field against Manhattanville beginning at 3:30pm.
