Student Group to Receive National Charter

NEW PALTZ — The SUNY New Paltz School of Business Management Association will hold a ceremony marking its status as a charter member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). The ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5 in the Terrace Restaurant.

“As a national student chapter of the SHRM, the Management Association will have access to innumerable resources enabling them to enhance their educational experience at SUNY New Paltz,” said Professor Kristin Backhaus, advisor of the Management Association.

The keynote speaker is Robert Hirsch, college relations representative for the New York State Society for Human Resource Management Council. Also speaking at the ceremony will be Ellen Anderson, president of the Mid-Hudson Human Resource Association.

“We are pleased to have such distinguished speakers join us for this ceremony,” said John Miraldi, president of the Management Association and senior majoring in business management.

“A business education must include experiences outside the classroom to help students learn about the business world and to develop necessary social skills that will enhance their careers,” said Hadi Salavitabar, dean of the School of Business at SUNY New Paltz. “I am especially pleased with the efforts of Professor Backhaus and the students of the Management Association for receiving this national charter.”

The charter ceremony is open to the public and a continental breakfast will be served. For more information, call the School of Business at (845) 257-2932.
