Red Dragons Sweep New Paltz Basketball
NEW PALTZ — The visiting Red Dragons of Cortland handed both men and women’s basketball teams losses Saturday night. The final score in the women’s game was 64-38 and the men’s final was 67-52.
In the women’s game, Cortland never trailed en route to the twenty six-point win. The Red Dragons bolted out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back. New Paltz was outscored by twelve in the first half and fourteen in the second thanks to a cold night from the floor. The Lady Hawks shot just 21% in the first half and 26% in the second. Kim Weigel (Whitestone, NY) was the lone New Paltz player in double figures with 10.
The men found themselves down by seventeen to Cortland at the break but surged back to trim the lead to six late in the second half. The Hawks were unable to get any closer eventually falling by fifteen points. Dan Cahill (Lawrenceville, NJ) paced New Paltz with 13 points.
Both team return to the hardwood Tuesday night as they host Oneonta in their final home games of the season.
