NEW PALTZ — On Tuesday, February 26, 2002, SUNY New Paltz Music faculty member Gregory Dinger performs at the Julien J. Studley Theatre. The concert begins at 8:00 PM, and tickets may be purchased at the door after 7:00 PM for $5 adults, $4 seniors and faculty/staff, and $3 students.
The evening’s program includes guitar arrangements of popular works, including J.S. Bach’s Prelude from the fourth cello suite and five sonatas from Domenico Scarlatti, arranged for guitar by Gregory Dinger. There are also pieces composed specifically for guitar, including four by Manuel Ponce and four by Agustin Barrios.
Gregory Dinger teaches guitar, music theory and music history at Ulster County Community College and is a classical guitar instructor at SUNY New Paltz and Bard College. He first studied guitar with Luis Garcia-Renart and subsequently with Frederic Hand, Eliot Fisk, Manuel Barrueco, Sharon Isbin, and Christopher Parkening. Mr. Dinger is a graduate of The New England Conservatory.
Since 1985, Dinger has hosted and programmed “Sunrise Concert,” WDST FM 100.1’s Sunday morning classical music show. Additionally, he has performed numerous solo concerts and has played concerti by Vivaldi, Villa-Lobos and Rodrigo with the Woodstock Chamber Orchestra. Other groups with which he has performed include the Hudson Valley Philharmonic, the Cantilena flute and guitar duo, The Arabesque Trio, and Ars Choralis. Mr. Dinger’s repertoire covers virtually every genre music for the guitar, including rock, pop, country, heavy-metal, blues, and Broadway. His performances often include banjo and mandolin in addition to the guitar. His guitar arrangements are published by Music Arts Graphics.
