Men and Women’s Basketball Swept by Brockport

NEW PALTZ — Both New Paltz basketball teams were defeated Tuesday night at Elting Gymnasium by the visiting Golden Eagles of Brockport. The women lost by a final of 84-55 and the men fell 91-62.

In the women’s game, the Hawks gave Brockport all they could handle in the first half leading by one point with less than three minutes to go. The Golden Eagles recovered to go into the locker room at the break leading by seven and never looked back in the second half. Brockport outscored the Hawks 43-21 in the second stanza to move to 3- 1 in the conference. New Paltz slips to 1-2. Sophomore Maura McShane (East Rockaway, NY) led the Hawks with 14 points in the game and Silver Williams (Newburgh, NY) had 13 followed by Lindsay Dakin’s (Andover, CT) 10.

Similarly, the New Paltz men’s team played a spirited first half against the defending SUNYAC champions and ninth ranked team in the country. The Hawks found themselves tied with the Golden Eagles with less than five minutes to play before going into halftime down 40-28. In the second half, Brockport pulled away outscoring the Hawks 51-34 to remain unbeaten. New Paltz falls to 0-3 in conference play. Junior guard Ben Davey (Andover, NJ) was the lone player in double figures for the Hawks with 14 points.

The men and women’s basketball teams hit the road this weekend for SUNYAC games against Oswego and Geneseo Friday and Saturday.
