Men’s Basketball Goes 0-2 at Hamilton Invitational

CLINTON, NY — The New Paltz men’s basketball team returned to action this weekend after close to a month layoff at the Hamilton Invitational.

Saturday night, the Hawks played Colby College in the opening round and fought valiantly against the favored Mules before falling by seven points 88-81. New Paltz had a balanced attack in the game with five players scoring in double figures. Senior forward Pat Stirk (Milford, CT) led the Hawks with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Steve Ott (New Paltz, NY) was next with 15 and Ben Davey (Andover, NJ) had 13. Tim Mahon (Poughkeepsie, NY) and Danny Goldberg (New Rochelle, NY) each had 11.

In Sunday’s consolation match, New Paltz fell to the Saints of Notre Dame College (NH) 77-72. Pat Stirk once again led the Hawks with 21 points and 10 rebounds and Steve Ott chipped in with 14.

The Hawks’ season record now stands at 1-9. The defending SUNYAC champions are next for New Paltz as Brockport comes to town Tuesday night for an 8:00 start.
