Men’s Soccer Falls to Nationally Ranked Richard Stockton

POMONA, NJ — Doug Cavagnaro broke a 1-1 tie with just over nine minutes left in the match en route to a 3-1 win over New Paltz. Stockton improved to 12-1 on the season and is currently ranked in the top twenty-five in the nation. The loss sunk the Hawks’ record to 4-8 overall.

Stockton came out gunning and got an early goal from Greg Ruttler 11:18 into the game. The Ospreys continued to apply pressure for the rest of the half but New Paltz Freshman Matt Daum (New Paltz, NY) equalized late in the first half. In the second half, Richard Stockton had several chances to score but was unable to beat Hawk Goalkeeper Kevin Smith (Niskayuna, NY). Two shots ricocheted off the post and Smith made several point-blank saves including saving a penalty kick to keep the game even. Cavagnaro tied it late though and Ruttler added an insurance goal 15 seconds later for the 3-1 result. Smith ended the game with 13 saves.

New Paltz plays again this Saturday at RIT at 1:00.
