Men’s Tennis Team Opens With Loss

NEW PALTZ — Ed Paulinski had the closest match score, but many of the Hawks’ matches were much more competitive that the final result showed, as SUNY New Paltz lost its 2001 men’s tennis opener, 9-0, to Division I Fordham on Wednesday at the university Air Structure.

Paulinski lost to the (1-0) Rams’ Andrew Salak at first singles, 6-3, 6-1, and also lost his earlier first doubles match with Andrew Lehr, 8-1. David Bridglall was the only other Hawk player to win more than two games, in a 6-1, 6-2 loss to Fordham’s Sevan Hugasyan at sixth singles.

New Paltz (0-1) will next play on March 19 when they host Rutgers-Newark for a 3:30 p.m. match.
