New Paltz Wins Again

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz continued its strong play with another men’s volleyball win, against the University of Findlay, a Division II school from Ohio, 30-28, 30-27, 30-26, on Thursday night at Elting Gymnasium.

The victory avenged a New Paltz loss to the (5-14) Oilers in both teams’ second match of the season on Jan. 21 at the D’Youville Tournament in Buffalo.

Sophomore outside hitter Jason Bateman led New Paltz (17-4) with 12 kills, five digs and three blocks, while AVCA/Sports Imports Division III Player of the Week Sean Riley was one of three others with eight kills, and also added five blocks and four service aces to the winning effort.

New Paltz (17-4), which has won 17 of its last 19 matches, continues to be ranked fifth nationally and have the best record in all of Division III.

The Hawks return to action next Thursday with a 7 p.m. match at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
