Hawks Fall In Florida Baseball Opener
LAKELAND, FLA. — SUNY New Paltz knew its first baseball game in Florida – against 27th-ranked Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute – would be a tough one. The Hawks didn’t expect to make their task tougher by committing five errors in the fourth inning, which led to nine runs, and an eventual 12-5 loss on Saturday at Henley Field.
Junior shortstop Jeff Lackaye continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-3 at the plate, and six other players had one hit apiece for New Paltz (1-2). Division I transfer Keith Roloson made his long-awaited Hawk mound debut, giving up just an infield single in two strong innings of relief work.
New Paltz plays two games on Sunday at the Lawnwood Complex in Fort Pierce, Fla. The Hawks play Buena Vista at 9 a.m. and take on Western Connecticut State at 12 p.m.
