Men’s Tennis Team Evens Record With Win

NEW PALTZ — The first collegiate wins for freshmen Bradley Breakstone, Bobby Calise and Adam Redding highlighted a solid day for the SUNY New Paltz men’s tennis team, which evened its season record with a 6-3 win over Rutgers-Newark on Monday afternoon at the university Air Structure.

All three freshmen won at both singles and doubles for New Paltz.

Redding teamed with Ed Paulinski to defeat Tom Battaglia and Albert Cheung, 8-5, at first doubles, and the tandem of Breakstone and Calise beat Ahmad Ashraf and Aris Valdehuesa, 8-2, at third doubles. Later, Breakstone outlasted Cheung at fourth singles (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Calise breezed by Enoi Sinprasith (6-0, 6-1) at fifth singles.

Paulinski dropped just three games against Battaglia to pickup his second win on the day, 6-1, 6-2, at first singles, and David Bridglall prevailed in a three-set sixth singles marathon with Ashraf.

New Paltz (1-1) has two more matches this week. On Wednesday, the Hawks are at the National Tennis Center in Queens to play a 3:30 p.m. match against Hunter, and on Saturday they play a 12 p.m. match at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
