Individuals Place Well At SUNYAC Indoor Championships

GENEVA — Pam Abbene jumped higher than the conference-record height in the Pole Vault, but so did three others, as she placed fourth to help the New Paltz women place seventh at the 2001 SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Hobart and William Smith College’s Bristol Fieldhouse on Saturday.

Abbene, a freshman in her first season of pole vaulting, jumped 2.44 meters (8’00”), which exceeded the SUNYAC meet record of 2.43 meters (7’11.50″) and tied two others for the second-best mark to Plattsburgh senior Erin Hammer’s winning height of 2.60 meters (8’06.25″).

Meanwhile, 2000 SUNYAC Outdoor Shot Put Champion Andrea Drayss finished third (11.49 meters) in the indoor version of that event, and Natasha Dudar placed sixth (4.67 meters) in the Triple Jump.

On the men’s side, Dale Eberhardt and Matt Selkirk finished second (52.42) and third (52.48), respectively, in the 400 Meters, and the Distance Medley Relay team took second place (10:44.31), as the Hawks placed eighth in the team standings.

Eberhardt and Selkirk also ran on the third-place 4 x 400-meter Relay team (3:30.21), which included John Montesano and Adam Thyberg.

The Hawks will next compete at the ECAC Championships at Boston University on March 3.
