Hawks Prevail In Delayed Contest
NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz led for all but 2:31 of Friday’s 65-49 women’s basketball victory over Potsdam at Elting Gymnasium.
The game started 1 hour and 20 minutes late due to an extended wait for replacement referees to arrive.
But for the Hawks, it was worth the wait. Sonya Mkoloma had a huge game, with 19 rebounds, 10 blocks, seven points, four steals and two assists, and Britni Bishop scored a game-high 16 points.
Zebi Williams added 14 rebounds and seven blocks, while Lisa Burriss had 15 points and five steals for New Paltz (11-12 overall, 8-11 SUNYAC), which shot 50 percent in the first half to build an 11-point halftime advantage.
Meanwhile, Nicole Beauregard had a team-high 13 points and three assists, and recorded her 1002nd career point on a three-pointer with 6:40 remaining in the first half.
New Paltz will have its final tuneup for next week’s SUNYAC Tournament tomorrow, when it competes in a 2 p.m. matinee against Plattsburgh.
