Hawk Swimmers Fourth After Day One At SUNYACs

BUFFALO — Mark Otto finished second in the 500-yard Freestyle (4:49.71) while Christine Foster took second in the 200-yard Individual Medley (2:17.53) to help New Paltz rank fourth on both the men’s and women’s sides after the first day of the three-day SUNYAC Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday at Erie Community College’s Burt Flickinger Aquatics Center.

Otto’s 500 was termed “one of the best swims I’ve seen in a long time,” by Hawk Coach Brian Williams. He also anchored the third place 400-yard Medley Relay team (3:38.90), while teammate Jeff Burke finished fifth in the 500, and Jon Amoia (200-yard Individual Medley) and Chris Newell (50-yard Freestyle) each had seventh-place finishes.

On the women’s side, the Hawks’ 400-yard Medley Relay team of Foster, Erin Lalor, Meghan O’Brien and Molly Soule shaved seven seconds off their previous best time, to finish third in 4:11.92. And in Three-meter Diving, Kathryn MacCrate (330.50 pts.) and Lauren Grzetic (324.95) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

Geneseo is the leader in both meets after day one, with 217 men’s points and 261 women’s points, while New Paltz has amassed 149 and 120 points, respectively.
