Men’s Basketball Team Loses To Utica/Rome

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz cut a five-point halftime deficit to three, but could not get any closer, as it lost its second game to Utica/Rome this season, 71-55, on Tuesday night at Elting Gymnasium.

The (5-12 overall, 4-9 SUNYAC) Hawks never led in the contest, with Robert Jones’ 12 points and nine rebounds going for naught. New Paltz shot just 18-of-50 (36 percent) in the contest.

SUNYAC scoring leader Keith Glenn had 17 second-half points after sitting out all but four minutes of the first half due to foul trouble. Rick Bond (14 points, four assists) and Will Mensah (13 points, seven rebounds, three steals) also reached double figures for Utica/Rome (8-10 overall, 5-9 SUNYAC), which moves ahead of New Paltz to ninth place in the conference standings

New Paltz goes back onto the road this weekend, with games Friday (8 p.m. at Buffalo State) and Saturday (4 p.m. at Fredonia).
