Men’s Volleyball Team Defeats New Haven

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz had little difficulty in dispatching Division II New Haven, 30-19, 30-21, 30-22, in a men’s volleyball match on Wednesday night at Elting Gymnasium.

Sean Riley led a balanced effort for New Paltz (3-2), the eighth-ranked team in this week’s American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 15 poll. It was the first-ever match for the (0-1) Chargers.

Riley had seven kills and nine blocks, while Christopher Wright had six kills, two service aces and four blocks. Additionally, Carlos Tollinche chipped in eight digs and six kills, and Division I transfer Beau Warren had 26 assists and five digs.

The Hawks, which have now won three straight, will open their Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Odeneal Conference season at 7 p.m. Friday night at Elting Gymnasium against Eastern Mennonite.
