Hawks Seventh At NCAA Regional Meet

BRIGHTON — Phil Goodwin placed 32nd to lead SUNY New Paltz to a seventh-place men’s team finish at the NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Meet hosted by the University of Rochester at Genesee Valley Park Golf Course on Saturday.

Goodwin completed the 8,000-meter course in 26:20, while teammate Matt Brown (34th place) finished just behind in 26:24. Both earned All-Atlantic Region status.

Other finishers for the men included Justin Lee (48th, 26:38), who was eighth among freshmen in the race, Chris Tuttle (63rd, 26:54), Corey Crawford (73rd, 27:02), Dan Holton (104th, 27:33) and John Zarella (145th, 28:17).

Freshman Rebecca Demeri, meanwhile, was the first Hawk female to run a sub-20 minute time in years, finishing the 5,000-meter course in 19:53. Fellow freshman Kristi Markwalter was 116th in 21:05.

The New Paltz men are ranked ninth in the latest Atlantic Region poll. Every New Paltz competitor except Goodwin ran their personal-best time in their last meet of the season.
