Women Win Home Soccer Opener

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz had five goals in the first 36 minutes to cruise to a 7-0 home-opening win over Division III provisional member SUNY Farmingdale on Tuesday afternoon.

Freshmen Michele Branca, Keegan Peck and Kristen Turano had two goals apiece and senior Wallkill High product Erin Scherf added two assists to lead the (1-1-0) Hawks to the victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Kim Baldwin, meanwhile, needed just two saves to record her first collegiate shutout.

The Hawks open SUNYAC play this weekend on the road against Plattsburgh (Friday at 4 p.m.) and Potsdam (Saturday at 1 p.m.).
