Field Hockey Loses First Home Match

KINGSTON — Leslie Howlett scored three goals for SUNY Geneseo to help spoil SUNY New Paltz’s first-ever home field hockey match, 5-0, on Friday afternoon at Kingston’s refurbished Dietz Stadium.

New Paltz (0-4 overall, 0-1 SUNYAC) was to have had its home opener on Sept. 6 against local rival Vassar, but the game’s location was switched when it was determined that Dietz’s new turf would not be ready by that date.

It marked the first time in the New Paltz program’s short history that it failed to score in a match.

Freshman goalkeeper Liz Clarke made 12 saves to keep the Hawks, which trailed 2-0 at halftime, in the match. On the other side of the field, Susan McNeil (seven saves) and Jen Maggio (four saves) combined to make 11 saves for Geneseo (5-1 overall, 2-0 SUNYAC), which has now won four straight matches.

New Paltz is back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dietz when it hosts SUNY Brockport.
