Hawks Record First Men’s Soccer Win

NEW PALTZ — Elmer Velasquez broke a scoreless tie at 52:20, to give SUNY New Paltz its first win of the season, 1-0, over visiting SUNY Potsdam on Saturday afternoon.

The (1-6 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC) Hawks, who held a slim 6-5 advantage in shots in the first half, allowed just two Potsdam shots on goal over the final 45 minutes for the victory. Kevin Smith made five saves for his first shutout of the season.

Scott Lambert, meanwhile played well for Potsdam (2-3 overall, 1-1 SUNYAC) in the loss, collecting seven saves.

New Paltz remains home to host Geneseo (Friday at 4 p.m.) and Brockport (Saturday at 1 p.m.) next weekend.
