Clarke ECAC Goalie Of The Week
NEW PALTZ — Strong play against a nationally-ranked team helped earn SUNY New Paltz field hockey player Liz Clarke Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Field Hockey Goalkeeper of the Week recognition.
Clarke, a freshman from Stone Ridge, NY, made 19 saves last Saturday in a 4-0 New Paltz loss to SUNY Cortland, which was undefeated and ranked fourth in the STX/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Poll at the time.
She averaged 17 saves and allowed just seven goals in two matches last week to earn the award. For the season, she has 129 saves (16.1 saves per game), a .768 save percentage and a 4.88 goals-against average.
It marked the second-most saves in a game for Clarke in her short collegiate career. Her 29 saves in a 5-1 loss at Drew University on September 12 was her personal- best total, as well as a New Paltz record.
A 2000 Rondout Valley High graduate, Clarke is a former All-New York State Public High School Athletic Association (1999) selection and a three-time Mid-Hudson Athletic League Field Hockey All-Star (1997-99).
