Women’s Basketball Team Loses Another

NEW PALTZ — Three players scored in double figures, but New Paltz shot just 30 percent as a team, as Potsdam beat the Hawks 68-57 on Saturday afternoon at Elting Gymnasium.

It was Potsdam’s first victory since February 6, 1998, and snapped a 36-game losing streak.

Robin Shields (six rebounds, two assists, two steals) scored 15 points to lead New Paltz (0-10 overall, 0-7 SUNYAC) in the contest. She now needs 112 points over the Hawks’ remaining 14 regular season games — an average of eight points per game — to become just the second New Paltz woman to score 1,000 career points.

Silver Williams (11 points, seven rebounds, three steals), Colleen Mower (10 points) and Lisa Burriss (nine points, seven rebounds) also contributed for the Hawks, who return to action at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Oswego.
