Men’s Soccer Falls To Ithaca

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz struck first, but visiting Ithaca scored two unanswered goals to take Saturday’s men’s soccer match at New Paltz’s Upper Field.

Elmer Velasquez scored for the (3-13-2) Hawks just 2:15 into the contest, but Ithaca’s Wade Wilkenson tied the score in the 21st minute and Matt Deskiewicz had the game-winner just 35 seconds after halftime.

Kevin Smith made two saves in goal for New Paltz, which closes its season 3 p.m. on Thursday at home against local rival Vassar College. Glenn Palmieri, meanwhile, needed one save to preserve the victory for the (11-1-1) Bombers.
