Hawks Top Seed For ECAC Tourney

NEW PALTZ — SUNY New Paltz has earned the top spot for this week’s Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men’s Upstate New York Basketball Tournament.

The (15-11) Hawks will play eighth-seeded Union College (15-10) in the opening round at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Elting Gymnasium.

In other quarterfinal action, #2 seed Fredonia (15-11) hosts seventh-seeded Alfred (16-9), #3 seed Rensselaer (16-8) hosts sixth-seeded Nazareth (15-10), and #4 seed Potsdam (14-11) hosts crosstown rival and fifth-seeded St. Lawrence (15-9).

Saturday’s semifinals and Sunday’s championship game will be played at the highest remaining seed. Admission to all games is $3.00 for adults and $1.00 for students. The complete tournament schedule follows:

After beating Potsdam for the second time in five days, 78-62, in the opening round of the SUNYAC Basketball Tournament on Thursday, New Paltz lost in Friday’s semifinals, 74-54, to eventual champion Geneseo. The Hawks have won five of their last seven games, and went a combined 4-1 this season against potential opponents Fredonia (two wins) and Potsdam (two wins, one loss).
