Van Wyen, Lavacca named All-Conference in Men’s Soccer
NEW PALTZ — Junior Captain Tim Van Wyen (Sayville, NY) and Sophomore Mario Lavacca (Port Washington, NY) were both named to the 2001 SUNYAC All-Conference Second Team recently by coaches in the conference.
Selections were broken down into a First and Second Team as well as an Honorable Mention Team.
Van Wyen anchored the New Paltz defense at sweeper for most of the season before being moved into the midfield. He finished the season with three assists, playing in every game for the Hawks and led his team with an unmatched tenacity on the field.
Lavacca finished as the leading scorer for his team for the second year in a row with nine goals and three assists. He was hampered for much of the season by an ankle injury but his dominating presence on the field still impressed coaches from around the league.
